Our Heer HBT stug wrap in reed green is popular among re-enactors to man assault guns and vehicles. But it was actually very rare and most commonly issued to reconnaissance units as a protective uniform to wear over the black wool panzer wrap. Because of the heat it was often worn as a stand alone jacket.
Directive 355. The crews of armored reconnaissance cars will be equipped with a reed green drill protective suit(jacket and trousers). The cut and style is the same as the black field uniform) The protective suit can be used as camouflage over the field uniform, as a summer work uniform without the black field blouse or trousers, and to help preserve the black field uniform.
It was basically the M36 panzer pattern so a double breasted jacket of HBT denim fabric. The fall collar unlike the panzer version had no piping but the shoulder boards we believe would have had a variety of colours, pink, red and golden yellow waffenfarbe . This later M36 pattern enabled the wrap to be button up and closed at the top via a metal eyelet.
The buttons were mostly grey plastic but horn buttons can also be found. Collar insignia was Runes collar tabs, either thread or BeVo versions.. The national emblem( eagle and swastika) was stitched to the right breast. This was the woven or BeVo variety. Black wool SS shoulder boards (Schulterklappen) complete the jacket. There were very few of these reed green assault wraps manufactured during the war. Most were phased out late 1943.
