SS Officers dagger. M36  Dagger with chain. Well made and with correct insignia and black scabbard and grip. SS Legend Meine Ehre heißt Treue etched to the blade.  Metal fittings and plastic handle and scabbard. Impressive reproduction. 13 7/8″ overall. 8 3/8 stainless blade.

SS  Officers Dagger. Historical information.

The  Standard  SS  service  dagger  was introduced in1933. It  was authorized  to eb  worn by all ranks. The  design  followed  the  same  pattern  as  the  SA  dagger, This  was  based on  the Holbein design  dating  back  to a  16th  Century swiss  dagger.  The  SS  dagger  comprised  a black ebony wood grip.   and  a dark blue, almost  black  sheath.  The  national  eagle  and  SS Sigrunnen  adorned  the  grip. The 1936 SS honor  dagger  with  chain( our product) was  for  wear by officers of  three  years service.  It is  identical  to the  M33  model  except  for  the chain.  This  comprised   of  a double  suspension hanger of  a cloverleaf and  a series  of links  adorned with  Sig  runes  and totenkopfs(deaths  head).  Our  SS officers Dagger  is a  reproduction  of the  1st  model  with  high relief  skulls  and shaped links.

The  Schutzstaffel (SS)

The  Schutzstaffel (SS) were the  elite guard  of  the Third  Reich. Formed in1925 as  a small  bodyguard to protect  Hitler.  It  remained  in this  capacity until Heinrich Himmler  took  charge in 1929. Under his jurisdiction  is  grow  to an enormous organisation co-opting  national police forces, Security, intelligence and business. Eventually  the SS developed is  own branch  of  the Wehrmacht, the  Waffen SS (armed  SS). From the beginning members  were chosen for  their physical and mental  ability and also there  character. Entry  was  from  21  years  of  age  followed by 18 months probationary period.  The  SS eventually   reflected  Himmlers  esoteric interests  and encompassed  quasi religious  ceremonies  and beliefs.  From 1945  it  was  classed  as a criminal organisation.
